On 18 February 2026 the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is set to publish updated guidance on managing type 2 diabetes, introducing a major shift in care. The new recommendations move beyond blood sugar control to a personalised approach based on co-morbidities, with a strong focus on long-term outcomes such as mortality, cardiovascular health, and kidney function.
This update supports the NHS 10-Year Health Plan’s ambition to move from treatment to prevention, helping to reduce future complications of diabetes. It also underpins the rollout of digital care tools like continuous glucose monitoring and promotes community-based care delivery.
Expect refreshed advice on medicines, including SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP‑1 agonists, and updated recommendations for insulin-based treatments.
Join us for an exclusive session with a clinical expert involved in developing the guidance. You’ll discover what’s new, explore practical implementation challenges, and discuss opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
What we’ll cover
- A clear breakdown of the changes to NICE’s methodology for managing type 2 diabetes.
- What’s new in clinical practice and practical steps to adapt to the updated recommendations.
- How to spot opportunities for improvement, prioritise actions, and engage your team in driving quality improvement within your organisation.
Who is it for?
This session is designed for front-line healthcare professionals and decision-makers involved in the care of people with type 2 diabetes. It will be relevant for GPs, hospital and primary care nurses, community and hospital pharmacists, dietitians, podiatrists, and physician associates, as well as commissioners and long-term conditions leads who play a key role in shaping and delivering diabetes services.
