Board Development

Supporting boards to create self-improving organisations.

We support boards across the health system to shift the culture and practice of leadership, so improvement becomes core to how organisations and systems are designed and led.

Our bespoke board development programmes help boards use the best learning from across the NHS to tackle pressing quality and productivity challenges.

Led by expert improvement facilitators, this work embeds improvement thinking into mainstream leadership practice. It strengthens collective capability, decision‑making and governance, enabling boards to lead sustainable change at scale.

Our board development work

We designed and delivered bespoke board development programmes for Kent Community NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, focused on strengthening board‑level leadership for improvement.

These programmes comprised three facilitated, face‑to‑face workshops at each organisation, led by experienced improvement facilitators, and were tailored to reflect local priorities and contexts.

Our sessions created psychologically safe spaces for board members to reflect, learn and plan together, combining theory with practical application. Participants felt that the sessions encouraged engagement, were highly relevant and valuable.

Following the sessions, board members told us they had much greater clarity on their priorities and had improved motivation to apply their learning in practice.
