About this webinar
Healthcare systems across the world are under unprecedented strain. Despite rising investment, outcomes that matter to patients are not improving fast enough, inequities persist, and many clinicians experience deep frustration and moral injury. This webinar draws directly from An Insider’s Guide to Implementing Value-Based Healthcare, offering a candid, practical, and human account of how value-based healthcare (VBHC) can be implemented in real-world systems.
You will hear the inside story of how VBHC was developed and embedded in Wales—one of the earliest national health systems to adopt value-based principles—and how these lessons translate internationally. The webinar combines narrative, policy insight, and practical guidance, reflecting both the complexity of healthcare transformation and the optimism that change is possible.
What we’ll cover
- Why modern healthcare is facing a crisis of outcomes, sustainability, and workforce morale
- What value-based healthcare means
- How focusing on outcomes that matter to people can unite clinicians, managers, and policymakers
- Driving value at three levels: people (person-centred care and shared decision-making), pathways (reducing low-value care and optimising whole pathways), populations (equity, prioritisation, and difficult resource decisions)
- The essential role of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs)
- Turning data into wisdom
- Cultural change, leadership, and the reality of implementing VBHC in complex systems
It will be a reflective, practical session that combines storytelling with actionable insight.
Case studies and examples
The webinar is grounded in real case studies from primary care, hospital pathways, procurement, and national policy, bringing VBHC to life through lived experience.
These include:
- Person-centred redesign of chronic disease care
- Pathway-level examples where outcomes improved while resource use fell
- Lessons from introducing PROMs at scale
- Leadership stories showing how clinicians, finance leaders, and managers aligned around a shared “true north”
