Q Lab UK test teams selected for NHSX partnership project

Find out about the teams generating insights on staff and patient trust in technology-enabled remote monitoring.

Four test teams from across England, Scotland and Wales have been selected for our Q Lab UK project, in partnership with NHSX.

Through supporting these teams, we hope to make progress and create generalisable insights on the challenge of building staff and patient trust and confidence in technology-enabled remote monitoring.

These insights will enable work to be scaled across the health and care system.

We received an interesting and varied mix of applications and after careful consideration with NHSX, we have selected the following teams to receive funding as part of Q Lab UK.

1. Healthcare Improvement Scotland

In partnership with NHS Lanarkshire, National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society and Cohesion Medical.

Building on a successful pilot, Healthcare Improvement Scotland will use the experience of being part of the Q Lab UK to develop a remote monitoring service for people with inflammatory arthritis.

2. South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

In partnership with National Horizons Centre, Teesside University and the What Works Centre for Wellbeing.

Following the development of technology to enable remote monitoring of kidney function, the team at South Tees are aiming to increase home haemodialysis, overcoming barriers around patient confidence and concerns of vulnerability and isolation from medical support.

3. Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

In partnership with Imperial College NHS Trust and Imperial College Health Partners.

After adopting technology-enabled remote monitoring on COVID wards during the pandemic, the team at Chelsea and Westminster are looking to explore ways to address digital inequity due to language barriers, access, training and support.

4. Aneurin Bevan University Health Board

In partnership with Technology Enabled Care Cymru, Additional Learning Needs Transformation Programme, South East Wales region Royal College of Psychiatrists, Welsh Local Government Association, Children in Wales and the All Wales Young Persons Advisory group.

As part of an initiative to bring health and social care for pupil wellbeing into schools, the team at Aneurin Bevan are looking to increase the impact of virtual technology in schools to offer mental health, eating disorder and speech and language services.

About Q Lab UK

Q Lab UK offers a bold new approach to making progress on health and care challenges.

Working on a single challenge, we bring together organisations and individuals from across the UK to pool what is known about a topic, uncover new insights and develop and test ideas.

Previous projects have focussed on peer support, and mental health and persistent back and neck pain.
